Lanterns
Nothing can be more charming than using lanterns in your garden. There are so many different ways that you can use them as well. You do not have to limit them to garden use, but for the sake of this article, we will talk about lanterns in your garden. And there are many different types of lanterns that you can use. Here are a few:
An electrical lantern
Electrical lanterns mirror those gaslights of long ago and are actually connected to the electrical wires in the ground. These run about a thousand dollars and can really make a statement in your garden. There are also lanterns that look just like electrical lanterns that run on solar energy. These run less money because they do not have to be connected to the underground electrical conduit.
Decorative Lanterns
Decorative lanterns are much less expensive than electrical lanterns and people usually get many of them and stick them around their garden, essentially lighting a path. They do not run on electricity but can run on oil or even by candles. They are more for decorative purposes than actual light, but when lit during a party, they can really set the mood.
Hanging Lanterns
You have probably seen Japanese lanterns hanging in the gardens of homes. They look charming and really great in backyards during parties. These lanterns usually work with the help of electrical fairy lights that are hidden in the lanterns. The fairy lights can also run on batteries.
Floor lanterns
There are also lanterns that can be placed on the floor of your garden to light the path. They can run on electricity or with candles. These are again for pure decorative purposes and used mainly in case of a party.
Citronella Lanterns
Citronella lanterns are used to keep buts away from decks and patios during the summer, mainly mosquitoes. These are usually filled with oil and lit to keep the bugs at bay. They are a natural way of keeping mosquitoes away from an outdoor party.
Bug Lanterns
Bug lanterns use ultraviolet light to attract bugs like mosquitoes and then zap them when they get too close. They are often used on decks when people want to enjoy sitting outside in the summer but not getting bit by mosquitoes all of the time. They are also less dangerous than insecticide sprays.
Lanterns can also be used in the house as decorative pieces. There are also electrical lanterns that can be placed on the entry way of the home, such as the garage, to light the way outside. Lanterns have been used for hundreds of years and we are still finding ways to use these charming yet very useful items.
Whether you want to use them for lighting the way at a party, getting rid of bugs or simply for decorative purposes, lanterns look great in your garden. Garden lanterns come in so many different styles that it is impossible to list them all here. Take a look at the type of lanterns that are right for you and your garden style.
